A House and a Home

ST-DENIS/PRIDDLE:  Pictured above is John Priddle (1849-1919), who was a carpenter, his wife Hannah Brinn (1857-1926) and certain of their family, circa 1895.  The house, remarkably enough, still stands at the corner of Norfolk County Road 45 and the 2nd Concession of Houghton Township.  A modern view of this location can be seen by doing a Google search for 1235 2nd Concession Road ENR, Langton, Ontario.  While the house looks much the same as it did over 125 years ago, the several bee hives off the back step are long gone.

The children, from left to right, appear to be:  Arthur (3 yrs.), David (13 yrs.), Bertha (5 yrs.) Charles (9 yrs.), Ethel (7 yrs.), and Sarah (19 yrs.).  One daughter, Hattie, who was not born until 1895 is missing – as is one son, Daniel.  He was known to have been an avid amateur photographer in his youth, and so perhaps he took the picture.
